Is It Possible to Use Too Many Serums?
The answer is complicated. While an excess of serum is not necessarily a bad thing, too much of the wrong type of serum can cause problems. While mild, moisturizing serums (such as those made with hyaluronic acid) and antioxidant serums (such as those with vitamin C) are good in multiples, overlaying excess exfoliating acids and acne products can lead to irritation, breakouts, and clogged pores.
All acids (glycolic, salicylic, and lactic) exfoliate and turn skin cells. It will peel your skin, your body will overproduce oil, and, on top of that, you'll still feel dry and irritable. Although it is recommended to add glycolic acid or retinol extracts to your daily routine, it is best to use them alone and with caution, depending on how well your skin tolerates them.
How Do I Know If I¡¯m Using Too Many Serums?
The first sign that you've gone too far? When you apply a lotion or serum, you may begin to feel a slight burning or tingling pain. If you continue down this path, you start to get redness and then flaky skin. This behavior pattern is most common in people with acne.
